We all eat sugar on a daily basis.  Sugar is found in processed foods, fruit, and carbs turn to sugar.  A daily serving of sugar according to the American Heart Association (AHA) in a day should be 37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons for men and 25 grams or 6 teaspoons for women. To understand this better, one candy bar can contain 120 calories from sugar in other words, eating one of these would conclude your sugar intake for the day.

Most American’s consume at least 3xs the amount of sugar they should in a day.  We consume at least 20 teaspoons per day.

Why do you want to reduce the sugar in your life?  Sugar causes a lot of problems in our bodies.  Our bodies are not created to handle high amounts of sugar in a day.  Sugar causes inflammation, cancer, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, cavities, headaches, ups and downs during the day, liver failure, obesity, depression, anxiety, etc..  If you go to a nutritionist or a health coach with any of the diseases I mentioned they will tell you right away to reduce and eventually stop the sugar.

So what is inflammation?  It is a pain associated with heat, redness, or swelling. When your body is irritated by a source such as environmental toxins, food allergies, or damaged tissue the body calls cells to the area to kill whatever is the stressor.  The problem is that the issue becomes chronic when it’s occurring too much in your body and the cells can not kill the problem.  This is when it becomes a very bad thing for your body.

Individuals with type 2 diabetes know that their body does not create or use insulin very well.  Insulin helps the body use glucose for food for energy.  If you are not creating or using the insulin very well a doctor will prescribe a pill or a shot form of insulin.  However, if you continue to eat sugar or high carbs that turn to sugar you will always have this issue and continue to need the synthetic form of medication.  Reducing and ultimately eliminating the sugar is the best way for your body to heal itself.

If you do not take care of yourself when it comes to diabetes most individuals will wind up with some sort of heart disease.  Heart disease is not caused by fried foods (fats).  It is also caused by sugar because too much sugar makes us insulin resistant, high triglycerides, lower HDL (good) cholesterol and dangerous small LDL (bad) cholesterol.  If you are eating a great amount of sugar you should go have your blood work done (you should be doing this yearly anyway) and have the doctor run all the relevant tests to make sure you are not on the cusps of becoming a sick or are sick.
